|
|
 |
Oh thank the mighty gods.... we are getting guild betas.
They are going to send me a bunch of beta keys. Probably more than enough - maybe more than we asked for.

There was quite a while there where the delving was moving incredibly slow. It took forum pages maybe a minute or more to load.
I'm sure you all couldn't stand it. Because it made me want to pull my hair out.
I tried what I could think of to make things better. But I had no luck. So I contacted my host and for almost 2 weeks they were not having any luck finding a problem.
Then this morning (8/23) a tech at my host suggested that they move the site to a different data center. Once they did that it was instantly better.
My guess is that there was some sort of network problem between the server that hosts the pages and the server that hosts the Database.
But now everything is back to normal and things are moving along just great. The only hiccup is that I had to change Nameservers and that change might take a few days to propagate through the worlds Nameservers. Most everyone will not notice any change. But some of you might not be able to access the delving for a day or two. Either complain to your ISP to do daily (or hourly) DNS updates or wait until they catch up with the name change.

This site might look a bit odd from time to time during the weekend. I'll be turning certain features off and on to try to determine what might be slowing things down.
I will try to keep things running as much as possible.

| SOE aquires Sigil and most everyone is promptly fired |
|
|
 |
Well... fired everyone but 50 Sigil employees, that is.
They rolled the whole Vanguard thing up into a tidy package that SOE can rape and pillage at leisure. Brad was paid off and he will silently slink back into obscurity with his 30 pieces of silver.
From several stories on f13.net signs seem to point towards gross managerial negligence on Sigils side.
Rumors state that Brad disappeared for about 8 months and let the company self-destruct at its most critical phase.
Now that SOE has taken control I guess things will get better..... HAW!!!.

Dugel Writes;
"I started this to run a marathon and help a charity out in the process. After I sent out my first emails, my friend, Karen Ramsey, informed me her Hodgkin's Disease has come out of remission. So now I have someone to run for! I am happy and honored to run for her and others and for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. The people that have the blood cancers are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

| Vanguard:Demon Spawn of SOE - Launches 1/30 |
|
|
 |
"Sony Online Entertainment and Sigil Games Online today announced that the upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game Vanguard: Saga of Heroes will be released to retail outlets across North America and Europe on January 30, 2007, for the suggested retail price of US$49.99. A limited edition is also available for a suggested retail price of US$89.99."

My snarky title tells you how I really think. Many things make a good ORPG. But one of the most important and the most unrecognized, by players, is support ingame and after the game. Which includes shipping a completed (not beta) game. SOE has proven again and again that they are just not willing or able to ship a done game, cannot support a game, and are more willing to churn out half-assed expansions (which you must pay for) rather than fix what they already know is broken in the old stuff.
SOE has the rape and pillage approach to gaming. Rather than cultivate a client base, they churn thru and use up customers.

Dugel writes "I know it doesn't have dwarves in it but it looks they are going to make a MMORPG for the Firefly Multiverse. This could be a great game, if they do it right.
If you don't know about Firefly or the movie Serenity, it was a Science Fiction series about a spaceship/freighter and it's crew. What makes it unique is they mix a lot of Old Western type themes in. The series was the idea of Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and was very well written and the characters are fantastic.
You can check the news from Wired here:
Thanks to Dugel for this submission. I saw the news item the other day and it got me a little bit excited. I own all of the Firefly DVD's (movie & TV). And I'm a big fan. -- Thergrim"
